چکیده

Thromb Haemost 2006; 95: 910–1 Dear Sir, A variable response to clopidogrel is consistently observed when adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation or vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) phosphorylation is assessed in clopidogrel-treated patients (1–3). A fast, reliable and simple method to assess the degree of pharmacologic P2Y12 blockade would be of great value to assess the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel and other P2Y12 antagonists. Such an assay would allow tailoring of P2Y12 antagonism to the individual needs of the patient. The VerifyNow P2Y12 assay (Accumetrics, Inc., San Diego, CA) has been developed for this purpose (4). The aim of this study was to correlate the results of the

Association of ABCB1 Gene Polymorphisms and Clopidogrel Responsiveness in Iranian Patients undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent currently used for preventing stent thrombosis. Despite certain clinical benefits of clopidogrel in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), adequate antiplatelet effect has not been obtained in some patients. The present study was designed to investigate the potential association of ABCB1 (ATP-Binding Cassette, Subfamily B, member1) gen...

Determination of clopidogrel resistance by whole blood platelet aggregometry and inhibitors of the P2Y12 receptor.

BACKGROUND Inhibition of platelet aggregation by clopidogrel may be insufficient in up to 30% of users. These nonresponders carry an increased risk of cardiovascular events. We reported here a simple assay to study clopidogrel responsiveness. METHODS Electrical impedance aggregometry was performed in diluted whole blood in the presence of 5 and 20 micromol/L ADP. Some samples were incubated w...

Short bowel syndrome and clopidogrel non-responsiveness: a new indication for platelet aggregometry?

To cite: Hadley G, Harrison P, Adlam D, et al. BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2013-202241 DESCRIPTION A 74-year-old woman presented with unstable angina. Coronary angiography demonstrated severe single-vessel coronary disease and a 3×12 mm bare metal stent placed in the right coronary artery. She had a history of short bowel syndrome following em...

The optimal threshold of high post-treatment platelet reactivity could be defined by a point-of-care VerifyNow P2Y12 assay

We read with great interest the study by Price et al., which verifies that high post-treatment platelet reactivity (HPPR) measured with a point-of-care VerifyNow assay (Accumetrics Inc., San Diego, CA, USA) is associated with post-discharge events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stent (DES), including stent thrombosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the f...
